Setting Professional Goals

Practicum Goals

1.      Engagement and Sustaining Attention for Learning:
Continue to observe and trial a variety of strategies for gaining attention and to build confidence in using these strategies.

Clapping Hands, Hands on Heads (to ensure nothing in their hands etc)


2.      Establishing a Teacher Presence – Discuss with Associate Teacher and other staff members, approaches and how to establish a ‘Teacher Presence’. 

Clarifying and building teacher identity.
Reflect on What am I like? / What am I doing?

Predominantly Verbal
Story Writing – Focus Goal in books / Verbal. 
Conversations on progress towards goals / creating new goals.
Learning Progressions – Scaffolding “My independence Pathway”.

3.      Further develop my knowledge and understanding of the curriculum, in particular Achievement Objectives and identifying relevant, specific Learning Intentions for each Achievement Objective.   These should be reflected in my planning.

Specific Goals for Mathematics Learning and Teaching.

1.       Strive to ensure that students understand – do not rush through materials and activities.  Offer help in a step-by-step approach.

 2.      Gain confidence by planning and teaching a mathematics unit of work – choosing appropriate Achievement Objectives, Learning Intentions and an appropriate and logical sequence of activities for students.

 3.      Gain experience in Assessment of students in mathematics.  To obtain templates for assessment and utilise these results to guide my planning.
